Barnegat is named after its most well known local attraction, Old Barney (the Barnegat Lighthouse).
It encompasses Barnegat Lighthouse State Park and the commercial fishing port of Viking Village. Also in
the north are the relaxed towns of Brant Beach, Loveladies, North Beach, Holgate and Harvey Cedar. Head
south to find bustling Surf City, Ship Bottom and Beach Haven, the island’s main action center, namely,
Thundering Surf Water Park & Adventure Golf, which features eight giant waterslides.
Ocean County is particularly attractive to home buyers of all ages. It
is among the fastest growing counties in New Jersey. Ocean County is known for
great public and private schools and colleges such as Ocean County College in
Toms River and Georgian Court University in Lakewood. It also offers an
extensive county park system and beautiful beaches. Ocean County is home to many
tourist attractions especially the beachfront communities of Seaside Heights, Long Beach Island,
Point Pleasant Beach. NJ Transit's railway line which serves New York Penn Station,
passes through Middlesex and Monmouth counties, and offers service as far south as
Ocean County's Bay Head and Point Pleasant Beach stations. Ocean County is located
along the Jersey Shore in New Jersey and its County seat is Toms River. It
is located 50 miles east of Philadelphia, 70 miles south of New York City, and
25 miles north of Atlantic City, making it a prime destination for residents
of these cities during the summer.
